thread making process of connecting a bristle to a taper to make a waxed end, usually by wrapping the fine point of the taper around the bristle many times, adhering with hand wax or tar, and passing the bristle through gaps pierced through the body of the taper
A well mounted bristle creates a waxed end with a smooth, gradual increase of overall thickness from the bare bristle to the full thickness of the taper. This allows the waxed end to pass through holes without snagging.
Piercing and passing through body of the taper helps to prevent unwinding. This is helped by piercing and passing through multiple times, each time separating different plies of the thread.
