Leather Burn Test

handy if not entirely reliable test for distinguishing chrome-tan from veg-tan leather

Chrome:

• bluish smoke
• blue or green flame
• bluish tinge to ash
• unpleasant smell

Veg:

• yellow flame
• brown smoke
• white or light grey ash
