YouTube video by Lisa Sorrell showing sharpening of one of her skiving knives
Notes
- 60° primary, 20° secondary bevels
- uses protractor to eyeball the angle to hold the blade
- uses a thin sharpening stone
- white sewing machine oil as lubricant
- pushes back and forth
- feels for an “edge that’s curled over” or burr, then turn over
- “move that burr to the other side”
- then just really lightly on each side to take it off
- moves on to paddle strop with green honing compound applied [probably chromium oxide]
- alternates pull strokes in each direction
