Skiving Knife

perpendicular blade knife used for skiving with handle set in the center of the blade

Blade Shapes

Blade edges can be perfectly perpendicular to the long axis of the handle, or angled. Angled blades are often described as “right-handed” or “left-handed”, though different manufacturers use those terms differently.

The ends of edges can be hard or chamfered.

Skiving knives with perpendicular, chamfered edges are sometimes called “French” skiving knives.

Skiving knives with angled edges are sometimes called “oblique”.
