metal alloy of copper and zinc
Brass is sometimes preferred to steel or iron for its greater resistance to corrosion. For example, brass clinching nails may pose less risk of rusting in shoes exposed to water, and brass lasting tacks may avoid staining moistened leather. However, brass fasteners typically costs more than steel, and are very often softer.
