Combination Last

last with a relatively narrow backpart, yielding shoes with narrower heels

Combination lasts may be derived from preexisting lasts graded for width by combining foreparts and backparts a fixed number of width sizes apart. Differences of two and three width sizes common.

The widths of combination lasts may be stated as the width of the forepart with an annotation, such as “Comb. EE”, or as the widths of forepart and backpart separated by a slash or dash, such as “B/D”.

Some shoe companies primarily or exclusively market shoes marked as built on combination lasts. In the United States, Allen Edmonds and Alden are well known examples.
