Slip Lasting
Footwear of this type was first made around 1868, but did not become popular until World War II. During this latter period, because of government restrictions on the use of leather and other rationed materials, as well as on shoe machinery, the slip-lasted process increased rapidly in acceptance and popularity for women’s shoes. This was due chiefly to the fact that slip-lasted shoes could be made almost entirely of fabrics and other non-rationed materials and with a minimum of labor and equipment.
