Lapjacks can be fashioned from dowels, tool handles, or table legs cut to slightly longer than the height of the maker’s lap from the floor. A hole is then drilled into the face of one end for mounting a last pin. The drilled end of the lapjack may be reinforced with a collar, bands, or washers.
