technique of lasting while sitting down, holding the shoe in the lap, with or without a foot strap, or on a lapjack
Compared to stand lasting, sit lasting can make it faster and easier to turn and flip a shoe to check upper alignment and lasting tension. Especially when lasting in the lap, but also on a lapjack without any toe cradle, it can be harder to pull hard on the upper, such as through the shanks of heavy boots, which lends toward the use of highly specialized crab shank lasters.
