Lip knives are relatively short, curved or straight knives with blunt, hooked ends, often with chisel-ground edges. They are often used to efficiently trim insoles, midsoles, and outsoles around the featherline of a shoe, and as general purpose cutting tools.
Sharpening and Honing
Examples
-
C.S. Osborne
- These come in right- and left-handed, No. 81-R and 81-L.
- These come semi-sharp: beveled, but not well honed, and therefore not ready to slice right through, say, thick outsole leather.
- The edges are also quite curved, so sharpening requires a round or flexible abrasive. Or you can regrind them flat.
