YouTube video by Ken Hishinuma showing lasting and welting
Notes
- only uses plastic shoe cover for welting when the shoe is a light color that could be stained
- uses a linen cord for interlaced gimp
- wets the nearest length of welt before sewing on
- pulls longer and tighter on the inside, with the shoe awl haft, than the outside
- casts the stitch on the inside
- The video doesn’t show seat sewing, but apparently he sews the seat with the same line of thread as the welt, without welt or a rand, also saddle stitched.
- Flattens waviness of the welt between stitches with a burnishing stick.
- hammers the seam all the way around
