Stitching Vise

Also Known As: Stitching Clam, Stitching Clamp, Stitching Pony, Saddler's Clam

En français: Pince a Coudre, Pince Maroquinier, Pince de Sellier

vise for holding layers together while stitching, freeing both hands to work with needle and stitching awl

Styles

Stitching vises may be built for mounting to benches with screws or clamps, built into sitting benches or stands, or designed with long legs designed to be trapped between the legs while sitting.

Stitching vises can be tensioned with screws, often quick-release, with elastic bands, or with clamps. Traditional French long-leg stitching vises are tensioned only by the leg holding the vise down in the lap.
