Drafting

“Drafting” is a name sometimes used for the process of making the first pulls in the lasting process, which position the upper on the last and put it under tension. Later pulls are sometimes referred to as “clearance pulls”. The chapters on lasting in Boots and Shoes Volume IV use these terms.

Drafting may be distinct from pre-lasting, which also involves pulls and tacks an upper to a last, but in anticipation that it will be removed and then later lasted.
