Last plates are plates of steel or other metal fixed to the bottoms of lasts, covering some or all of the bottom of the last below the featherline. Last plates provide a hard surface for turning over clinching nails. They usually have holes drilled out in the center of the heel, waist, and forepart, exposing part of the last for for tacking on insoles.
