term for an original last from which other lasts are copied or graded
Models are often reinforced in ways that working lasts aren’t, such as by rows of nails or metal bands along the featherline. They may also have have markers, such as a dome-head nails, driven in to produce bumps marking measuring points or other features on copies. Some lasts may have hinges or detachable blocks to allow adjustment of key measures like toe spring or heel pitch.
On other hand, models may also lack features of working lasts, such as thimbles, working mechanisms, and plates.
