Mean Form

Also Known As: Mean Forme

pattern representing a working compromise between last forms for the inside and outside of a last, so that a symmetric upper cut from the mean form can be laid on and lasted to produce an asymmetric shoe

Preparation

Mean forms are often found by tracing the last form for one side of a last, aligning the last form for the other side over the first, aligning the form to the tracing at key points along their edges like the counter point and vamp point, tracing the second form, then drawing a line between the outlines of the two forms along the top and sides and the lower of the two tracing lines along the bottom.
