outseam channeling technique where the bottom of a leather outsole is carved to create a flap under which a groove for the outer seam is gouged
When the shoe is outseamed, the flap is folded and glued down, hiding the stitches on the bottom of the sole.
The flap is often cut to the depth of just below the grain-corium junction.
