Bottom Paper

Also Known As: Bottom Pattern

a pattern in the shape of the bottom of a last, often equivalent to the insole shape

In foreparts, backparts, and outside waists, bottom papers trace the featherlines. Closing the shape through the arch, where there often isnโ€™t any defined featherline, requires design.

Bottom papers may be used to cut insoles, midsoles, and footbeds.

Bottom papers may also be referred to as last gauges, a more general category, especially when used for quality control of lasts rather than clicking of shoe components.
