Approaches
Broadly, lastmaking can be done in a few ways:
- additively, by fitting to an existing last and building up to shape
- subtractively, by rough turning or knifing an oversized shape and shaping it down
- digitally, creating the shape on computer and 3D printing or turning on a computer-controlled lathe
